Metrobank Foundation Fetes Past Awardees,
Partners During 30th Anniversary Celebrations
“Amid the financial crisis of today, I believe we need to do more. And we will do more with the help of our partners,” Metrobank founder and group chairman George S. K. Ty said during the 30th anniversary celebrations of Metrobank Foundation, Inc. on January 22, 2009 at the Metrobank Plaza Auditorium in Makati City.
The visionary business leader and philanthropist welcomed guests during the event, which gathered Metrobank Foundation past awardees and institutional partners from various sectors of society.
“All the work that the Foundation has done in the last thirty years is my way of giving back and sharing my success with Philippine society,” Mr. Ty said in his speech and shared his vision when he founded Metrobank Foundation on January 8, 1979: “to show of my gratitude for the country and the countless opportunities opened to me by the Filipino people.”
Deadline for submission of entries is on May 8, 2009. Winning groups will receive cash prizes from Metrobank Foundation.
Carrying the theme “Exel. Engage. Empower.,” the event was highlighted by the conferment of the Award for Continuing Excellence and Service or ACES to 30 past Metrobank Foundation awardees. First given in 2004 during its 25th anniversary, the distinction is given to past winners who have continued to stand out in their respective fields after having been honored by the Foundation for their achievements. Selected from among the Foundation’s roster of awardees in the Search for Outstanding Teachers, Metrobank Art and Design Excellence (MADE) national competition, the Search for Outstanding Journalists, and recognition program for members of the Armed Forces of the Philippines from 1984 to 2004, the awardees are distinguished by their positive influence and leadership among their peers and in their respective communities.
The Foundation also honored its institutional partners in the government and non-government sectors by bestowing the Partner in Empowering and Advocating Excellence (PEACE) recognition during the event. Among them are the Department of Education, Commission on Higher Education, Department of Social Welfare and Development, the Armed Forces of the Philippines, Philippine National Police, Civil Service Commission, Federation of Filipino-Chinese Chambers of Commerce and Industry, Inc., The Asia Foundation, The Japan Foundation Manila, Association of International NGO Studies, Ateneo de Manila University, De La Salle University, Philippine Judicial Academy-Supreme Court of the Philippines, the Embassy of the United States of America, Pacific Paint (Boysen) Philippines, Inc., and SGV and Co.

Retired Chief Justice Panganiban, vice-chairman of the Foundation’s Board of Advisers delivered the keynote address. He lauded the Metrobank Foundation for promoting a culture of excellence among the Filipinos by recognizing outstanding individuals in different fields of endeavors, engaging them to extend their work to their communities, and empowering others to be a positive influence for others.
The Metrobank Foundation is the corporate social responsibly arm of the Metrobank Group of Companies.
