Providing the Best Designs for the Least
Metrobank Foundation, Inc. and Gawad Kalinga (GK) partnered to achieve the best village designs for the poor through the Gawad Kalinga-Metrobank Designer Village Challenge launched last January 30, 2009 at the Adamson University Auditorium.
The Gawad Kalinga-Metrobank Designer Village Challenge launching was led by GK founder Tony Meloto and Metrobank Foundation president Aniceto M. Sobrepeña, who urged architecture and interior design students from the audience to erase the borders that defined art and design as something only a select few can enjoy by making the best designs for the poor. Also gracing the event were some of the country’s renowned architects and interior designers, together with deans of the colleges of interior design and architecture from different universities in Metro Manila.
The Gawad Kalinga-Metrobank Designer Village Challenge is a design competition that aims to raise the standards of excellence of the GK Communities through creative, innovative, sustainable, and functional village designs. It is open to teams consisting of 3 to 5 members who are 4th or 5th year students taking up architecture, interior design and landscape architecture. Teams should be guided by a maximum of 3 advisers who should be a licensed architect or interior designer. The winning designs will be built in selected GK communities in the National Capital Region, Luzon, Visayas, and Mindanao.
Deadline for submission of entries is on May 8, 2009. Winning groups will receive cash prizes from Metrobank Foundation.
