Celebrates with Gawad Kalinga
Beneficiaries
March 31, 2005
On its 26th anniversary, the
Metrobank Foundation formally turned
over the 24 housing units to the
beneficiaries of the Metrobank
Foundation-Gawad Kalinga (GK)
Village in Barangay Consuelo,
Macabebe, Pampanga.
The turnover was highlighted by the
signing of the Memorandum of
Agreement between the Metrobank
Foundation led by its president Dr. Placido Mapa, Jr. (seated, 2nd from
left), Gawad Kalinga Board Member
Bro. Joe Yamamoto (seated, 4th from
left), and Noelito Santos (seated,
extreme left), president of the Metrobank Foundation-GK Village.
Witnessing the event were
Representative Anna York Bondoc of
the 4th District of Pampanga
(seated, middle), Macabebe Mayor
Leonardo Flores (seated, extreme
left), (standing from left) CFC
Provincial Area Director Bro. Rey
Espiritu, MBFI executive vice
presidents Elvira Ong Chan and
Aniceto Sobrepeña, Pampanga
Provincial Board Member Nelson
Tolentino and Masantol Mayor Peter
Flores.
“The turnover of houses ushers a new
beginning in the lives of our
beneficiaries in the Village”, Dr.
Mapa said in his brief message. “We
trust that our beneficiaries receive
their houses with renewed hope and
aspirations for a better life
ahead”.
As part of the anniversary
celebration, residents of the
Village were treated to a day filled
with various activities. These
include repainting of the Village’s
Sibol School, a health promotion
lecture for adults facilitated by
health practitioners from Manila
Doctors Hospital, a storytelling
session for children by Metrobank
Foundation Outstanding Teachers and
tree planting. The beneficiaries
also received household items,
medicines and vitamins while
storybooks were turned over to the
teachers of the Sibol School.

Officers and staff from the
Metrobank Head Office, Metrobank
branches in Pampanga and other
member companies of the Metrobank
Group, namely, the Philippine
Charter Insurance Corporation,
Toyota Motor Philippines Foundation,
Orix Metro Leasing and Finance
Corporation, Manila Doctors Hospital
and Manila Doctors College, also
generously volunteered their time
and efforts as they participated in
the activities and dined with the
residents in their respective
houses.
The Village was developed from the P
1 Million grant of Metrobank
Foundation to the Gawad Kalinga
program of the Couples for Christ on
the occasion of the wedding of
Pampanga Congressman Juan Miguel
Arroyo three years ago, under
President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo’s
housing program for the poor. The
Village is now a livable community
to more than 100 beneficiaries (23
families). |
