Metrobank Foundation: 27 Years Of
Responsible Corporate Citizenship
June 24, 2006
The Metrobank Foundation, the
philanthropic arm of the Metrobank
Group, recently celebrated its 27th
anniversary at the Metrobank
Foundation – Gawad Kalinga Village
in Macabebe, Pampanga.
The event was highlighted by the
signing of Memorandum of Agreement
(MOA) between the Foundation,
represented by its president Dr.
Placido L. Mapa and executive
vice-president, Mrs. Elvira Ong
Chan, and the Gawad Kalinga
Community Development Foundation,
Inc. represented by Nicandro C.
Pineda, Gawad Kalinga Head -
Pampanga.
The new agreement provides for the
infusion of additional funds for the
development of the community, which
was adopted by the Foundation in
2003 under the Gawad Kalinga
socialized housing program for the
poor. The funds will help ensure the
implementation of needed social
services in the community, including
electricity and water facilities, as
well as the establishment of
livelihood programs.
As in a similar activity undertaken
by the Foundation last year,
officers and staff of the Foundation
as well as representatives of
various Metrobank subsidiaries, with
the support of gracious donors,
donated “Bags of Love” containing
groceries and other basic
necessities to each of the 23
families residing in the community.
Aside from officials of the
Metrobank Foundation, Congresswoman
Anna York Bondoc of the 4th District
of Pampanga also attended the
program, along with other officials
of the local government of Macabebe.
One of the country’s biggest and
most active proponents of corporate
citizenship in the country, the
Metrobank Foundation is engaged in
various social development projects
in the fields of education, visual
arts and health care. Through an
active grants-making program, the
Foundation also maintains
substantive partnerships with other
like-minded socio-civic
organizations all over the country. |
