INTERNATIONAL PLUM FOR METROBANK CSR
Metrobank was recognized for its contributions to corporate citizenship in the Philippines, with its recent win at the inaugural Retail Management Awards of the Asian Banking and Finance Magazine organized by the Charlton Media Group, one of the region’s leading independent publishers of business publications. Metrobank’s corporate social responsibility arm, the Metrobank Foundation, was recognized as the “Best Corporate Social Responsibility Program” by the competition’s panel of judges, comprised of banking and finance journalists, industry leaders and practitioners across Asia.

Metrobank Foundation president Aniceto Sobrepeña represented the Metrobank Group at the awarding ceremony in Singapore, where he received the award from Asian Banking and Finance Magazine editor-in-chief Tim Charlton.
Sobrepeña expressed his appreciation for the honor bestowed on the Foundation, noting that the recognition of a Filipino corporate foundation gives testament to the thriving presence of corporate social responsibility in the Philippines. “While we are pleased to put local CSR practices on the global map, this award serves as a challenge for us to constantly work with our partners in both public and private sectors towards the greater goal of nation-building by advancing our advocacies in education, arts, public service and health,” he said, noting that the Foundation’s programs complement the values-oriented business culture of the Metrobank Group.
The Retail Management Awards is the third international award-giving body that has recognized Metrobank’s CSR initiatives. In 1999, Metrobank Foundation won the Asian Banking Award for Social Responsibility Programs, making Metrobank the first Philippine bank to receive such an honor from the Asian Bankers Association and Association of Development Financing Institutions in Asia and the Pacific. This was followed in 2004 by the Asian CSR Award for Support and Improvement of Education.
The Metrobank Foundation is the corporate social responsibility arm of the Metrobank Group. Over the last 28 years, it has promoted a culture of excellence among Filipinos through its various programs notably the Search for Outstanding Teachers, the Metrobank Art and Design Excellence, The Outstanding Philippine Soldiers, the Country’s Outstanding Policemen in Service, the Metrobank Math Challenge, and the College Scholarship Program. The Foundation also has a grants program that assists NGOs and the government in the fields of education, healthcare, and the arts. Metrobank Foundation celebrates Filipino excellence and presents wellsprings of hope in the future of our nation.
