2010 TEACHERS’ MONTH CAMPAIGN REAPS GRAND ANVIL

The Metrobank Foundation’s continuing efforts to recognize the country’s educators was lauded for the second straight year with another Grand Anvil Award from the Public Relations Society of the Philippines (PSRP). MBFI took home the top award for the 2010 Teachers’ Month Campaign (TMC), duplicating last year’s feat when the Foundation first clinched the much coveted Grand Anvil for the 25th anniversary of the Search for Outstanding Teachers or SOT. This is the first time in the history of the Anvil Awards, that a corporate foundation won the Grand Anvil back-to-back for two related programs in honor of the teaching profession.

MBFI, the Department of Education, TMC Steering Committee, and all the participating groups have been cited for successfully instituting a month-long campaign aimed at celebrating teachers and the central role they play in Philippine education and promoting the growth and development of the teaching profession in the country. Over the last 3 years, the Campaign has grown into a movement that encouraged and influenced different sectors of society and people, young and old alike, to publicly express their appreciation and gratitude to current and past mentors through fitting activities held in school campuses, malls, provincial gymnasia, offices, business establishments and through print, broadcast and on-line social media.

“We are very grateful for the success of our programs in education, particularly our advocacy of giving value and appreciation to the teaching profession—SOT and TMC” said MBFI president Aniceto M. Sobrepena, who co-chairs the TMC Steering Committee along with Secretary Armin A. Luistro of DepEd. “The visibility of heightened support and involvement of partners from different sectors are to be credited in the successful implementation and impact achievement of the Campaign,” he continued.

The TMC created widespread consciousness among the general public to pay tribute and respect to these everyday heroes in education, true to its unique nature of being a nationwide advocacy campaign. Launched during the awarding of the Metrobank Foundation Search for Outstanding Teachers on September 3, 2010, the Campaign seeks to create greater awareness and encourage wider participation in the celebration of UNESCO-declared World Teachers’ Day every October 5.

Metrobank and MBFI also took home an Anvil Award of Merit for their 2009 Unified Annual Reports. On the other hand, Metrobank Group’s hospital affiliate, Manila Doctors Hospital was also awarded with an Anvil Award of Excellence for their Recyclables Program and Anvil Award of Merit for its Chinese Marketing Program.

Since 1985, MBFI has been winning Anvil awards for its various programs and public relations tools. To date, it has won 24 awards. Dubbed as the Oscars of the public relations industry in the Philippines, the Anvil is given to outstanding public relations programs and tools that reflect and promote public interest, good values, and genuine service to the community and society.
