Metrobank Foundation bags Grand Anvil
 

The Metrobank Foundation received the Grand Anvil, the highest recognition conferred during the Anvil Awards, for its Search for Outstanding Teachers in the recently concluded 45th Anvil Awards.

The Search, which celebrated its 25th anniversary last year, was awarded its first Anvil as Outstanding Institutional Public Relations Program in 1986, a year after its first batch of awardees was named. It also received an Anvil Award of Excellence in 2001.

Over the years, the Search has become a sought-after award among educators as it earned the prestige of becoming a benchmark of excellence in the teaching profession. To date, the Search has produced 286 outstanding teachers, among them pillars in the academe, who continue to excel in their respective fields.

“To ensure that a PR program remains meaningful and relevant to its target stakeholders and is able to yield the results through consistent implementation year on year, is the kind of sustainability the Public Relations Society of the Philippines (PRSP) would like to encourage through the annual Anvil Awards,” expressed Eduardo Alcaraz, APR, Chairman of this year’s Anvil Awards Committee.

“The process of improving local education is long and arduous. Thus, to have been doing it for a quarter of a century is already a huge accomplishment,” Alcaraz said about the Search for Outstanding Teachers which aims to improve the quality of education in the country by encouraging exemplary Filipino teachers to pursue excellence in their profession, thus making them models not only for their peers but for the entire community as well.

Aside from the Grand Anvil, the Foundation also won four Anvil Awards of Excellence for its various programs: the Metrobank Art and Design Excellence (MADE) under the Public Relations Program on a Sustained Basis – Arts and Culture / Heritage / Tourism category; the Search for The Outstanding Philippine Soldiers (TOPS) under the Public Relations Program Directed at Specific Stakeholder – Host Community category; Search for Country’s Outstanding Policemen in Service (COPS) under the Public Relations Program Directed at Specific Stakeholder – Special Interest Groups category; and the Search for Outstanding Teachers under the Public Relations Program on a Sustained Basis – Education category. The Foundation also took home an Anvil Award of Merit, together with the Metrobank, for its 2008 unified Annual Report.

The Metrobank Foundation, the corporate social responsibility arm of the Metrobank Group, has been winning Anvil awards since 1985. To date, it has won 21 Anvil awards for its various programs and public relations tools.

On the other hand, the Manila Doctors Hospital, owned by the Metrobank Foundation, also bagged an Anvil Award of Excellence for its Medical Mission for Typhoon Victims under the Specialized Public Relations Projects – One Time Basis – Crisis / Disaster & Risk Communications category, and an Award of Merit for its program entitled Bridging the Gap: A Comprehensive Program for Patients with Cleft Deformities and their Families under the Public Relations Program Directed at Specific Stakeholder – Special Interest Groups category.

PSBank, a subsidiary of the Metrobank Group, also won an Anvil Award of Merit for its 2008 Annual Report under the Public Relations Tools – Publications – Hard Copy / Printed Format – Annual Reports category, making it a total of 9 Anvil awards for the Metrobank Group.

Dubbed as the Oscars of the public relations industry in the Philippines, the Anvil is given to outstanding public relations programs and tools that reflect and promote public interest, good values, and genuine service to the community and society.

The Metrobank Foundation is the corporate social responsibly arm of the Metrobank Group of Companies established by Dr. George S.K. Ty in 1979. With the theme “Excel. Engage. Empower.” the Foundation has promoted a culture of excellence among Filipinos through its various programs, such as the Search for Outstanding Teachers (SOT), the Metrobank Art and Design Excellence (MADE), The Outstanding Philippine Soldier (TOPS), Country's Outstanding Policemen in Service (COPS), the Metrobank Math Challenge (MMC), and College Scholarship Program (CSP). The Foundation also engages its partners and awardees in different activities geared towards giving back to the society. Through these initiatives, the Metrobank Foundation empowers its awardees and partners to become better citizens of the community. As part of its contributions to help improve health care services in the country, Dr. Ty donated a two-hectare lot along Diosdado Macapagal Avenue, costing about P1.2 billion, that would be the site of a modern tertiary medical center complex. This new hospital, once completed, will have a 1,000-bed capacity, making it one of the biggest hospitals in the country owned by a not-for-profit organization.
