PROTECT: Continuing Excellence through Community Empowerment
In 2008, The Metrobank Foundation’s Search for the Country’s Outstanding Policemen in Service (COPS) awardees from 2003 to 2008 have organized themselves into an association that will promote responsible citizenship not only in the Philippine National Police but in their respective communities as well. The newly established alumni association of COPS is called Policemen Responsible for Organizing, Training, Empowering Communities or PROTECT. The main goal of PROTECT is to promote a culture of excellence through programs promoting responsible citizenship that would hopefully lead towards nation building.
Last year, the PROTECT were once again convened in order to launch its pilot project, “Pulis Ko, Teacher Ko at PROTECT Ako,” a training program for Grade 6 and 1st Year High School students on responsible citizenship. The initiative is in partnership with MBFI, PNP, and the Metrobank Foundation Network of Outstanding Teachers and Educators, Inc. (NOTED), the alumni organization of the awardees of the Search for Outstanding Teachers. Through the help of the PNP, the training program will be implemented in sites where there are Model Police Stations nationwide, in support of the PNP Integrated Transformation Program. The trainers of the program will be trained by the Outstanding Teachers, who have also been instrumental in conceptualizing the Lesson Plans for the project.
