Metrobank Foundation Donates P3M for "HABAGAT" Relief Operations

As the recent monsoon rains that inundated most areas in the NCR and nearby provinces in Luzon left thousands of families displaced from their homes, Metrobank Foundation, Inc. (MBFI) Chairman George S.K. Ty  has immediately allocated a total of P3 million to the ongoing emergency and relief operations to alleviate the condition of flood victims who were badly affected.
MBFI President Aniceto Sobrepeña announced that the calamity assistance fund is being coursed through various organizations to support priority needs of the flood victims. MBFI Executive Director Nicanor Torres has initially turned over part of the funds to the ABS-CBN Foundation’s Sagip Kapamilya and to GMA’s Kapuso Foundation. Next to receive financial assistance is the Philippine Red Cross, TV5’s Alagang Kapatid Foundation, and the Federation of Filipino Chinese Chambers of Commerce and Industry.

“We hope that with this contribution, Metrobank could somehow help our fellow Filipinos move on from the terrible aftermath of the recent calamity”, said Metrobank Group Chairman Ty. “We in the Foundation remain committed to provide immediate assistance to like-minded organization in their efforts to bring aid and comfort to victims, following such emergency situations,” added Dr. Ty.

For more than 30 years, the Metrobank Foundation, Inc. has been continuously giving financial support to calamity victims both locally and internationally as part of its humanitarian initiatives. In 2011, it has extended calamity assistance to the victims of typhoon Pedring and Quiel.  Likewise, MBFI together with Toyota Motors Philippines Corporation (also a member of the Metrobank Group) joined hands in providing assistance to the Japanese people after the tsunami caused by the 8.9 magnitude earthquake that hit the country.
