Ang ipinasya naming bigyan ng National Book Award para sa disensyo ay ang MADE of GOLD ni Cid Reyes, disenyo ni Aman Santos, inilathala ng Metrobank Foundation (We evaluated all the books that have been published last year. We scrutinized whether the book design effectively contributes or hinders the readability of the book. It is important that we look for the coherence from the design to the content of the book. In books which are image-heavy, such as coffee-table books, visual representation is of prime importance. Are these images really essential parts of the book? Do the images featured in the book narrate the same story and messaging with that of the text in the books? Does it complement to the overall impact of the book? We had a hard time deliberating which has the most aesthetic and coherent book design since many of the books are indeed exemplary. We have decided to award the National Book Award for Best Design in “MADE of GOLD” by Cid Reyes, designed by Aman Santos, and  published by Metrobank Foundation.),” reads the citation written and delivered by acclaimed writer Dr. Isagani Cruz

Dubbed as the “gold seal of excellence in writing and publishing books”, the National Book Awards was established in 1982 to recognize “the best books written, designed, and published in the country” and to “build a culture of reading and authorship”.

“MADE of GOLD” chronicles the almost three-decade history of the Metrobank Art & Design Excellence (MADE) competition. Written by acclaimed art critic Cid Reyes, the book documents the significance of MADE in the Philippine art scene and its involvement in uplifting Philippine culture and art for nation-building. The 252-page book features, in full color and gold-gilded edges, the winning artworks and designs since 1984 until 2011 — 140 paintings, 12 sculptures, 7 Metrobank Prize for Achievement in Sculpture (MPAS) awardees, 13 interior designers and 6 architects.
