Commission
on Higher Education (CHED)
The Commission on Higher Education
or CHED was established by virtue of
Republic Act No. 7722 otherwise
known as the "Higher Education Act
1994." This was signed into law by
Former president Fidel V. Ramos on
May 14, 1994. Its establishment was
the result of the recommendations
made by the Congressional Commission
on Education (EDCOM) to eradicate
the problems hampering the growth of
higher education.
To achieve such goal, the CHED has
instituted various projects geared
towards the development of
Philippine higher education. Among
these are the establishment of the
Centers of Excellence (COEs), the
State Universities and Colleges (SUCs)
Computerization Program, and
grants/financial assistance to
students and faculty. MBFI’s linkage
with CHED is similar to its
partnership with DepEd. Due to its
extensive powers and functions as a
leading government institution, the
Foundation partners with CHED to
better implement its
education-related programs. |

Club of Manila
The TOWER Awards (The Outstanding
Workers of the Republic) was founded in 1975
by the Rotary Club of Manila as an
annual search for the outstanding
“blue collar” workers of the
country. It aims to recognize the
contribution to economic development
of the legions of skilled workers
who constitute the backbone of our

ten years but was revived in 1996 in
response to the call for Philippines
2000 - that is, to revitalize
excellence and productivity at the
workplace and energize the
collective skills of our workers for
global competition.
Through the TOWER Awards, the
Foundation hopes to engender a
