Metrobank Foundation Bags 2004 Asian
CSR Award

The Metrobank Foundation, the
corporate social responsibility arm
of the Metrobank Group bagged the
2004 Asian CSR Awards for its
various education programs besting
197 other entries from among 110
companies in 15 countries who joined
the competition last year.
Ambassador Romualdo Ong of the
Philippine Embassy in Malaysia
received the award during the annual
Asian Forum on Corporate Social
Responsibility held in Kuala Lumpur.
Under the Support of Improvement of
Education category, the Foundation’s
Search for Outstanding Teachers
(SOT), Metrobank Math Challenge (MMC)
and College Scholarship Program (CSP)
were recognized for promoting
excellence and enhancing the quality
of education in the country.
Through the Search for Outstanding
Teachers, which was launched in
1985, Filipino teachers are honored
for their achievements and exemplary
contributions to the teaching
profession. The Math Challenge on
the other hand is an annual
competition that addresses the need
to enhance mathematical skills of
young students and help improve Math
education in the country. Finally,
the College Scholarship Program
provides deserving students access
to quality education. Aside from
financial assistance, the Metrobank
Foundation also provides its
scholars with supplemental training
programs on leadership, values
formation and other skills that are
essential to succeeding in college.
Almost 800 scholarships grants have
so far been awarded in more than 40
universities and colleges
nationwide.
The Asian CSR Awards is Asia’s
premier awards program on corporate
social responsibility. It honors and
recognizes Asian companies for their
outstanding and innovative programs
and projects that demonstrate the
company’s leadership and commitment
to uphold social responsibility in
the way they do business. The award
