Metrobank
Foundation President
Looking at the Glass Half-Filled:
Words of Wisdom from the New
Foundation President
June 25, 2006
He
handles three institutions and has
time for his lovely wife and
children. Aside from his new
designation as the President of
Metrobank Foundation, he is also the
President of Manila Doctors College
and the Manila Doctors Hospital.
Meet a man whose energy and
enthusiasm rouses the spirits of the
people he works with.
With each ending comes a new
beginning. Farewell to a most
respected and well-loved leader in
Dr. Placido L. Mapa was tough for
Metrobank Foundation. A pioneer of
his time and a tough act to follow,
his presence and quiet dignity will
surely be missed.
But the key lies in recognizing the
opportunities and the growth that
change brings to the organization,
and with it comes possibilities, new
horizons and a new President in
Chito M. Sobrepeña.
Solid
Foundations
He is perhaps one of the busiest
executives in the country, and is in
demand with all three organizations
that he runs. But he manages to keep
his feet firmly on the ground. He
has recently won the CEO Excel
Awards sponsored by the
International Association of
Business Communicators, in
recognition of the Foundation’s
communication’s strategies.
As a boss, he is very encouraging to
his people and gives them
recognition for their efforts. He
has a macro sense of leadership and
at the same time, very hands on with
his employees. Taking the time to
call them to his office one by one,
he meets with them and gives his
suggestions and ideas - a rare thing
for a chief in today’s times, when
everything else can be done over
email.
In meetings, he never fails to ask
questions, “How can we do better?”,
“How can we get them more
involved?”, “What can we do about
this?” An optimistic person that
never sees the obstacles in things,
instead, he trains his employees to
always look at the glass half-full.
Passion and
Excellence Above Else
Service with Excellence is his
favorite motto, and with Mother
Teresa as his role model, Chito
believes in the idea of faithfulness
more than success. His ten years
with the Foundation has not deterred
his determination to do better, and
serve his countrymen more.
“One of my standards in life is
being faithful to a commitment I
make,” he says seriously. “I will
continue to be faithful to a vision
– to a commitment.”
With a faith that inspires him to
keep going, Chito believes that his
election to the Presidency is part
of God’s plan in his life. Always
looking at the bigger picture, he
believes that “when you are involved
or asked to do a task, than you have
to give your best – your fullest”. |
