New Partnership Strengthens Metrobank Foundation's COPS Search
December 2007
Private sector efforts to ensure peace and order got a much-needed boost with PSBank’s announcement of support for Metrobank Foundation’s Country’s Outstanding Policemen in Service (COPS). PSBank joins the Rotary Club of New Manila-East and the Philippine National Police in sustaining the program, which recognizes the shared responsibility between the police force and the community in the prevention and resolution of crime. This annual nationwide search honors four Commissioned Officers and six Non-Commissioned Officers who have demonstrated integrity, courage and professionalism on duty.
COPS winners are considered the police force’s cream of the crop, having been chosen after a stringent selection process that includes documentation of achievements, background check, and panel interview with a distinguished Board of Judges representing various sectors of society. Winners each receive a trophy and a P200,000 cash prize from Metrobank Foundation and PSBank.
Metrobank Foundation president Aniceto Sobrepeña expressed appreciation for the growing interest in the welfare and well-being of the police force. “COPS serves as an affirmation of the civilian sector’s trust in our police force’s capacity to serve and protect our communities, and I am confident that this new partnership with PSBank will further strengthen the implementation of the program,” said Sobrepeña.
The partnership was formalized at the COPS Summit held at PSBank Center in Makati City, with Sobrepeña, PSBank president Pascual Garcia III, PNP Chief Avelino Razon and Rotary Club of New Manila East president Gener Mendoza signing a Memorandum of Agreement. The Summit – which was attended by representatives of the PNP regional PIOs and Rotary sister clubs – also served as the launch of the 2008 Metrobank Foundation Search for the Country’s Outstanding Policemen in Service.
