Art and Design Excellence Winners

Metrobank Foundation recently
awarded winners of the Metrobank Art
and Design Excellence national
competition in grand ceremonies held
at Le Pavillon. For 21 years,
Metrobank Foundation has
continuously unearthed and honored
outstanding visual artists. With the
expanded arts program, MADE also
includes categories in sculpture,
architecture and interior design.
In the painting competition, Chriseo
C. Sipat garnered the grand prize in
the Oil Based Medium on Canvas
category for his work entitled “God
Bless Us”. Marnie S. Corpus earned
second place for “Can” you have
Faith” while Parker E. Encisa placed
third for the “The Evidence”.
Winning the grand prize in the Water
Media on Paper category is Randie M.
Gutierrez for his entry “See-Through
Cages”. Joel John L. Valenzuela’s
“Himbing” or “Sleep” received a
special citation.
In the Sculpture competition, Jan
Leeroy C. New bagged the grand prize
for his work entitled the “Cradle”.
Juan Miguel G. Aquilizan won a
special citation for his “Timog,
Silangan, Hilaga, Kanluran” (Still
Life) or “South, East, North, West”.
Marybeth Tabaquin-Ting and Architect
Noel K. Tan were the first to take
home the plums in the newly
introduced Interior Design and
Architecture competitions,
respectively. Ting won for her
“Vinta” interior design concept,
while Noel K. Tan won for his
“Fusion”: The Tan Residence, a
3-storey residential structure in
Talisay City, Cebu.

Now on its second year, the
Metrobank Foundation Prize for
Achievement in Sculpture (MPAS)
awarded to Mr. Duddley Diaz in
recognition of his outstanding
artistic output and significant
contributions to the development of
Philippine sculpture. Diaz will
receive P150,000 in cash and a
medallion especially designed by
artist and former Metrobank
Foundation winner Roberto Feleo.
Ambassador Rubens Fedele of Italy
together with Atty. Charito Cruz,
President of Cabinet Spouses
Association personally awarded the
winners a trophy each especially
designed by artist and former YPA
winner Noell El Farol. The grand
prize winners in all four
competitions received P150,000 each,
while the second and third place
winners for the Oil on Canvas
category in the painting competition
got P130,000 and P120,000,
respectively. In addition, each
winner receive a trophy The two
artists who got special citations
were awarded with a plaque.
Following the opening day exhibit, a
series of lectures were given by Mr.
Duddley Diaz, Prof. Racquel Florendo,
Architect Prosperidad Luis, Mr. Noel
El Farol, Leo Almeria and Architect
Francisco “Bobby” Mañosa. The
lectures were part of the continuing
effort of the Metrobank Foundation
to promote and cultivate art
awareness. |
