2005 Metrobank
Art and Design Excellence (MADE)
“Vinta” Concept Awarded Top Prize in
Interior Design
October 6, 2005
A Muslim vinta, the swift native
outrigger with a rainbow-striped
sail, inspired the design concept of
an island resort clubhouse, the
“Vinta Beach and Yacht Club”, which
bagged the grand prize in the
interior design competition under
the Metrobank Art and Design
Excellence or MADE Program. The
designer, Marybeth Tabaquin-Ting,
envisions Vinta as a proud
expression of Filipino heritage and
innovativeness.
The project utilizes an approach
that intends to create a setting
that is not only pleasing to the
eyes but is also sustainable, which
is achieved by the deliberate and
extensive use of indigenous
materials such as abaca, bamboo and
rattan for natural fiber carpets,
wall treatments and window coverings
of hand loomed fabric.

A Fine Arts graduate at the
University of Sto. Tomas, Ting’s
personal preference in styling is
simple and uncluttered. She likewise
takes into consideration the need,
location and client preference to
tailor fit a design. Ting considers
interpreting information and
preferences and transforming it to
three- dimensional ideas a great
fulfillment.
Ambassador Rubens Fedele of Italy
together with Atty. Charito Cruz,
President of Cabinet Spouses
Association personally awarded the
trophies to Ting, for her
award-winning concept, together with
the other winners of the other three
categories. Each awardee received
P150, 000 in cash and a trophy
especially designed by artist and
former Metrobank winner Noell El
Farol.
A panel of judges led by renowned
interior designer, Mr. Gerry L.
Contreras, selected this year’s
winners. Other members of the
distinguished board were Ms. Marivic
Añonuevo and Architects Lor Calma
and Arturo Alcantara.
Following the opening day exhibit, a
series of lectures were given by Mr.
Duddley Diaz, Prof. Racquel Florendo,
Architect Prosperidad Luis, Mr. Noel
El Farol, Leo Almeria and Architect
Francisco “Bobby” Mañosa. The
lectures were part of the continuing
effort of the Metrobank Foundation
to promote and cultivate art
awareness.
In 2004, the Metrobank Foundation
launched MADE after 20 years of
awarding talented young painters
under the Young Painters’ Annual.
With the expanded arts program, the
Foundation also aims to recognize
the outstanding works of young and
promising sculptors, architects and
interior designers. Just like the
Foundation’s previous art
competition, MADE aims to provide a
venue for talented artists in
various disciplines to express their
creativity and provide them with
incentives to further hone their
craft. |
