Quezon City Honors Outstanding Teachers
Four awardees of the 2007 Metrobank Foundation Search for Outstanding Teachers join the roster of noteworthy individuals honored by the Quezon City government for their exemplary achievements in the field of education. Fredo Laureles of Ateneo de Manila Grade School, Norma Pacaigue of Novaliches National High School, Dr. Benilda Santos of Ateneo de Manila University and Dr. Caesar Saloma of University of the Philippines Diliman were especially cited for their steadfast commitment to mentoring the youth. To date, thirty seven educators from Quezon City schools have been named outstanding teachers by the Metrobank Foundation.
Mayor Sonny Belmonte and vice mayor Herbert Bautista led the conferment rites in Quezon City Hall. They were joined by Metrobank Foundation president Aniceto Sobrepeña and EVP Elvira Ong Chan.
Established in 1985, Metrobank Foundation’s Search for Outstanding Teachers (SOT) honors educators who have dedicated their lives to mentoring the youth through classroom instruction and beyond, by serving as models of excellence in their respective communities. Past winners have gone on to form the Network of Outstanding Teachers and Educators (NOTED), an honor society that actively works towards the elevation of teaching through professional development and advocacy in partnership with government and non-government institutions.
The Metrobank Foundation is the corporate social responsibility arm of the Metrobank Group of Companies. Over the last 28 years, it has promoted a culture of excellence among Filipinos through its various programs notably the Search for Outstanding Teachers, the Metrobank Art and Design Excellence, The Outstanding Philippine Soldiers, Country’s Outstanding Policemen in Service, the Metrobank Math Challenge, and the College Scholarship Program.
