Metrobank Fetes Outstanding Teachers

As an embodiment of its belief in cultivating a culture of excellence among the Filipino people, Metrobank yet again commemorated its 46th founding year by recognizing “the finest examples of the best in the Filipino in the field of public service.”
Ten public educators who coveted the 2008 Metrobank Foundation Search for Outstanding Teachers title led the honorees during their awarding ceremonies held at the Metrobank Plaza Auditorium on September 5, 2008.
“Over the last two-and-a-half decades, the Search has established benchmarks in excellence and achievement among our teachers. The award has become a measure of performance and contributions, representing a pinnacle of sorts that any teacher can aspire for,” George S. K. Ty, Metrobank founder and group chairman in his welcome address.
Now on its 24th year, the annual event recognizes Filipino educators for their contributions to the teaching profession, personal integrity and character, instructional competence, and professional and community involvement.
This year’s awardees are: Jesusa M. Antiquiera of Padre M. Gomez Elementary School in Sta. Cruz Manila; Lynn Z. Padillo of Naga Central School in Naga City; Maydelyn R. Antioquia of President Manuel Roxas Memorial School North in Roxas City; O Marie Theresse M. Bagas of West City Central School in Cagayan de Oro City; Rowena R. Hibanada of Pedro E. Diaz High School in
Muntinlupa City; Ermie E. Rabara of Midsayap-Dilangalen National High School in Midsayap, Cotabato; Jeanette G. Dials of Mariano Marcos State University Laboratory High School in Laoag City; Noemi O. Obcena of Cagayan National High School in Tuguegarao City; Dr. Irma R. Makalinao of the University of the Philippines-Manila; and Dr. Virginia C. Cuevas of the University of the Philippines in Los Baños, Laguna.
Joining the teachers who made it to Metrobank Foundation’s honor roll this year were other outstanding the 2008 outstanding policemen and soldiers, who were recognized by Metrobank Foundation’s excellence awards programs such as the The Outstanding Philippine Soldiers (TOPS) and the Country’s Outstanding Policemen in Service (COPS).
House Speaker Prospero Nograles served as the guest of honor during the awarding ceremonies, one of the highlights of Metrobank’s 46th anniversary celebrations. Also present were Department of Education Secretary Jesli Lapus and Nona Ricafort of the Commission on Higher Education.
Lapus, together with Senator Peter Senator Alan Peter S. Cayetano co-chaired the Final Board of Judges of this year’s Search. Also serving as judges were House Education Committee Chair Congressman Del R. De Guzman of Marikina City; Supreme Court Associate Justice Presbitero J. Velasco, Jr.; Ambassador Robert Desjardins of the Embassy of Canada; Fr. Roderick C. Salazar, Jr., President of the Catholic Educational Association of the Philippines; and Atty. Felipe L. Gozon, Chairman/President and CEO of GMA Network, Inc.
The Metrobank Foundation is the corporate social responsibly arm of the Metrobank Group of Companies.
