in Malacañang

Truly modern-day heroes worthy of respect, admiration and emulation.  So described George S.K. Ty, Metrobank founder and group chairman, of this year’s winners of Metrobank Foundation Search for Outstanding Teachers. The taipan presented the 10 winning educators to President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo in ceremonies held on September 1, 2008 in Malacañang.

Citing how the Search’s winners continue to influence educators in the country by their best teaching practices, scholarly pursuits, and peer mentoring, the taipan committed to President Arroyo and the Filipino people that “we shall endeavor to continue the Search in many more years to come.”

“Through this Search, we will find as many Outstanding Teachers as we can every year, to honor them and by their examples, show us how we can be the best in our professions and contribute to the shaping of a better future for our country,” Ty said.

Now on its 24th year, the annual event recognizes Filipino educators for their contributions to the teaching profession, personal integrity and character, instructional competence, and professional and community involvement.

This year’s awardees for the elementary level are: Ms. Jesusa M. Antiquiera of Padre M. Gomez Elementary School in Sta. Cruz Manila; Mrs. Lynn Z. Padillo of Naga Central School in Naga City; Mrs. Maydelyn R. Antioquia of President Manuel Roxas Memorial School North in Roxas City; and Mrs. O Marie Theresse M.
