Congress Hails Outstanding Educators

The House of Representatives reaffirms the crucial role of educators in nation building in a recent resolution honoring the winners of the 2008 Metrobank Foundation Search for Outstanding Teachers.

This year’s awardees, consisting of four elementary and four high school teachers, together with two professors from the UP System, went to the Congress where they were recognized for their recent accomplishment. Representatives from their respective provinces accompanied the outstanding teachers as they each received a copy of House Resolution 102 from House Speaker Prospero C. Nograles.

The “Commending and Expressing the Sense of Pride of the House of Representatives in the Winners of the 2008 Metrobank Foundation Search for Outstanding Teachers” cited the examples of this year’s honorees “who devote their lives to the development of the youth through exemplary competence and dedication and who best serve as models of excellence.”

“These ten (10) outstanding teachers are shining examples of unstinting dedication and commitment to the teaching profession and as such the pride of their respective schools and communities,” the resolution stated.

This year’s awardees are Jesusa M. Antiquiera of Padre M. Gomez Elementary School in Sta. Cruz Manila; Lynn Z. Padillo of Naga Central School in Naga City; Maydelyn R. Antioquia of President Manuel Roxas Memorial School North in Roxas City; O Marie Theresse M. Bagas of West City Central School in Cagayan de Oro City; Rowena R. Hibanada of Pedro E. The resolution also lauded Metrobank Foundation led by its president Aniceto M. Sobrepeña for “bestow[ing] honor upon the teaching profession” through the annual search.

Leading the Congress in welcoming and congratulating the outstanding teachers who made it to Metrobank Foundation’s honor roll this year was Representative Del R. De Guzman, chairperson of the House Committee on Basic Education and Culture, together with majority floor leader Representative Arthur D. Defensor, and Reps. Rozzano Rufino Biazon and Salvador Escudero III. De Guzman was a member of the Search’s Final Board of Judges this year.

Now on its 24th year, the Metrobank Foundation Search for Outstanding Teachers recognizes Filipino educators for their contributions to the teaching profession, personal integrity and character, instructional competence, and professional and community involvement.

The awarding ceremonies will be held on September 5, 2008 at the Metrobank Plaza Auditorium during Metrobank’s 46th anniversary celebrations. Each outstanding teacher will receive a trophy and a cash prize of P300,000.

This year’s winners will join the rank of 266 outstanding teachers, who have been honored by the Foundation for the last 24 years. They automatically become members of the Network of Outstanding Teachers and Educators or NOTED, an honor society of outstanding teachers committed to nurturing a culture of excellence and service among educators through professional development, publications, research, and advocacy in active partnership with government and non-government organizations.
