Senate Recognizes Outstanding Educators

The Senate recently honored the winners of the 2008 Metrobank Foundation Search for Outstanding Teachers in a recent resolution,

Senate Resolution No. 103 “Commending the Metrobank Foundation’s 2008 Outstanding Teachers” said, “Next to our parents, the teachers have the most impact on our lives and they instill in us the values of right and wrong and have made profound difference in the paths that we have chosen.”

“Amidst the difficulties our teachers are facing because of meager salaries and benefits and the deplorable condition of many of our school buildings, teaching materials and equipment, they remain reliable and dedicated in their duty of educating the youth.”

The ten teachers who made it to the Metrobank Foundation’s honor roll this year personally thanked Senate President Manny Villar and all the senators for their support during a courtesy call to the Senate on September 1, 2008. Senator Alan Peter Cayetano co-chaired the Search’s Final Board of Judges this year together with Education Secretary Jesli Lapus.

This year’s awardees are: Jesusa M. Antiquiera of Padre M. Gomez Elementary School in Sta. Cruz Manila; Lynn Z. Padillo of Naga Central School in Naga City;  Maydelyn R. Antioquia of President Manuel Roxas Memorial School North in Roxas City; O Marie Theresse M. Bagas of West City Central School in Cagayan de Oro City;  Rowena R. Hibanada of Pedro E. The awarding ceremonies will be held on September 5, 2008 at the Metrobank Plaza Auditorium during Metrobank’s 46th anniversary celebrations. Each outstanding teacher will receive a trophy and a cash prize of P300,000.

This year’s winners will join the rank of 266 outstanding teachers, who have been honored by the Foundation for the last 24 years. They automatically become members of the Network of Outstanding Teachers and Educators or NOTED, an honor society of outstanding teachers committed to nurturing a culture of excellence and service among educators through professional development, publications, research, and advocacy in active partnership with government and non-government organizations.
