Metrobank Foundation Names 2009 Search for Outstanding Teachers National Finalists
Metrobank Foundation, Inc. proudly announces the 20 national finalists who were chosen by the preliminary board of judges for the 2009 Search for Outstanding Teachers or SOT.
Out of the 173 nominations generated nationwide, 20 have been selected as national finalists consisting of 4 teachers from the tertiary, 8 from the secondary, and 8 from the elementary levels. They will advance to the final judging phase of the Search scheduled from July 22 to 24, 2009 at the Metrobank Plaza in Makati City. The national finalists will be interviewed by the final board of judges who come from different sectors such as the congress, judiciary, academe, local government unit, media, and business. From the 20 national finalists, ten (10) will be selected as this year’s outstanding teacher awardees.
President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo will confer gold medallions to this year’s awardees at Malacañan Palace in September. They will also be presented with plaques and cash amounting to Php 300,000 each during the formal awarding ceremonies at Metrobank Plaza in Makati, which will serve as the highlight of the 47th anniversary celebration of the Metropolitan Bank & Trust Company on September 4, 2009.
Now on its 25th year, the Search bestows honor upon the teaching profession by according special recognition to teachers who manifest profound commitment to the development of the youth through exemplary competence, remarkable dedication to their work, and an effective educational leadership. Since the awarding of the 1st batch in 1985, a total of 276 outstanding teachers from elementary, secondary, technical-vocational, and higher education levels have already been recognized.
