Outstanding Teachers: Committed to
Quality Education
July 11, 2005
To reaffirm their commitment to
quality education, more than 150
past and present awardees of the
Metrobank Foundation Search for
Outstanding Teachers gathered for
the 2nd Network of Outstanding
Teachers and Educators (NOTED)
National Convention.
Metrobank Foundation Executive
Vice-President Aniceto M. Sobrepeña
welcomed the participants who, in
his words, are “collectively a
formidable human resource of the
country.”
The convention speakers addressed
specific aspects of the theme,
“Meeting Future Challenges through
Expanding Paradigms in Education.”
The keynote speaker, Congressman
Edmundo O. Reyes, Jr., Chair of the
House Committee on Basic Education,
argued for the importance of the
pre-elementary period when young
children start learning the basic
foundation skills.
Dr. Evelina M. Vicencio, 1988
Metrobank Foundation Outstanding
Teacher, presented the dreams and
visions for elementary education 20
years hence, while Dr. Tereso S.
Tullao, Jr. (1993) spoke on the
impact of globalization on tertiary
education and the production of
knowledge. Engr. Cesar Cortez (2000)
envisioned the trends and growth
areas in technical vocational
education in the next ten years,as
Ms. Shirley R. Jusayan (2001) dealt
with the need to strengthen the
science and technology component of
secondary education.
During the workshops, the
participants came up with their best
practices and formulated strategies
in sharing them with other teachers
in the country and in preparing
students to meet future challenges.
The resulting resolutions provide a
working blueprint for action plans
that the members of NOTED hope to
implement in various parts of the
country.
The election of the new batch of
NOTED national officers was also
held. Elected were: Dr. Evelina M.
Vicencio, president; Dr. Josefina A.
Tuazon, vice-president; Mrs.
Josephine M. Calamlam, secretary;
Ms. Evelyn B. Caja, treasurer; and
Dr. Graciano P. Yumul, board member.
Chapter officers were likewise
elected. They were sworn into office
by EVP Director Sobrepeña who
reminded them of their commitment to
upgrade the quality of teachers and
teaching in the country through
their exemplary dedication and
commitment. |
