TOPSNOTCH: Search for Outstanding Soldiers Now Going On
TOPS Nomination Announcement
The search for the gallant men and women in the Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) begins. The Metrobank Foundation and the Rotary Club of Makati Metro are now accepting nominations to the 2009 Search for The Outstanding Philippine Soldiers (TOPS). A search for the crème de la crème in the AFP, TOPS celebrates excellence in military vocation by honoring the valor, gallantry and self-sacrifice demonstrated by the men and women of the Armed Forces of the Philippines in the task of building a free, fair and peaceful society.
The nationwide search recognizes the career achievements of ten officers and enlisted personnel from the AFP’s three branches – the Philippine Army, Philippine Navy, Philippine Air Force, as well as the AFP Technical Units.
Nominees must have a minimum service record of seven (7) years and discharge their duties in the fields of combat, community service, technical service with a sense of courage, integrity and responsibility. Winners will each receive a trophy and cash prize of P250,000.
Now on its 15th year, TOPS has already named 106 awardees, among them five generals, namely BGen. William Campos (2003), BGen. Renato Lorenzo Sanchez (1995), BGen. Cesario Atienza (2002), BGen. Lino Horacio Lapinid (1997), and MGen Juancho Sabban (2003).
Nomination forms are available at AFPGHQ Office of Personnel (J1), AFP Major Services Headquarters, and all Metrobank branches. Forms may be also downloaded at www.mbfoundation.org.ph and www.afp.mil.ph. Deadline for submission is on November 28, 2008.
