The
2005 Search for The
Outstanding Philippine Soldiers
(TOPS)
Metrobank, Rotary, AFP Launch Search
For Top Soldiers; Signs Agreement
The
Metrobank Foundation and Rotary Club
of Makati Metro, together with the
Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP),
recently launched the 2005 search
for The Outstanding Philippine
Soldiers (TOPS) in simple rites held
at the Manila Golf Club in Makati
City. AFP Chief of Staff Gen. Efren
Abu was the guest of honor and
speaker.
A signing of the Memorandum of
Agreement between the three
institutions highlighted the event
led by AFP Chief of Staff Gen. Efren
Abu, Metrobank Foundation president
Dr. Placido Mapa, Jr. and executive
vice president Elvira Ong Chan,
Rotary
Club of Makati Metro president
Lior Liechtenstein and TOPS 2005
chairman Delfin Lucas.
“The AFP has benefited much from the
TOPS award,” said Gen. Abu during
the MOA signing. “It has heightened
the morale and motivated soldiers
toward excellence. The thought that
their sacrifices for national peace
and stability are actually
appreciated further boosts their
determination to succeed at their
mission.”
The
TOPS Award aims to encourage and
recognize examples of personal and
professional excellence as well as
outstanding track records of service
and achievement among the country's
military personnel. The Search also
looks closely into the nominee's
personal character, professional
training, and contribution to the
advancement of the public good.
Winners will be chosen for their
career achievements in the entirety
of their military service. Those who
have at least seven years of service
in the military are eligible to join
the search. The TOPS search will
choose two outstanding
Non-Commissioned Officers and one
outstanding Commissioned Officer
from the three branches of the AFP,
namely, the Army, Navy and Air
Force, and one awardee from the
Technical Services.
Starting this year, each awardee
will receive a cash prize P150,000
(increased from P100,000 last year)
plus a trophy courtesy of the
Metrobank Foundation.
Nomination forms are available at
the AFP General Headquarters and all
regional command offices, Metrobank
branches and Rotary Club local
chapters nationwide. Deadline of
submission of nominations is on June
17, 2005. For more details, please
