2006 Search for The

(TOPS)
Metrobank Foundation Invites Former
AFP Chief as Judge for Outstanding
Soldiers
February 19, 2007
Former AFP Chief Gen. Narciso Abaya,
now president and chief executive
officer of the Bases Conversion
Development Authority, joins four
other distinguished personalities as
members of the Final Board of Judges
in the search for The Outstanding
Philippine Soldiers (TOPS) for 2006.
Gen. Abaya believes that the Search
creates a strong impression on the
men and women in the Armed Forces of
the Philippines since it gives
recognition to the efforts and
contributions of the Filipino
soldier. A soldier should fully
understand the important role they
play in society. I think that every
soldier contributes more towards
maintenance of security, peace and
order, because development cannot
proceed without this atmosphere of
security, he says.
A joint undertaking of the Metrobank
Foundation and the Rotary Club of
Makati Metro, the two-day final
interview phase narrowed down the
number of nominees to 19 finalists.
The candidates were a mix of
commissioned officers and enlisted
personnel of the Philippine Army,
Air Force, and Navy, as well as
commissioned officers of the
Technical Services.
As a former soldier himself, Abaya
was comfortable to be part of the
judging process, I fully understand
the military psyche I know how
they think, what motivates them, and
what their frustrations are. He
confirms that the candidates for
this year are a fine selection.
These finalists represent the best
that the entire AFP has to offer.

Joining Gen. Abaya as members of the
Final Board of Judges are Hon.
Merceditas N. Gutierrez, from the
Office of the Ombudsman, Sergio S.
Cao, Ph.D., Chancellor of the
University of the Philippines
Diliman, and Ms. Amylyn S. de Quiros,
President of the Public Relations
Society of the Philippines. Leading
the board is Ms. Evelyn R. Singson,
2006 president of the Management
Association of the Philippines. |
