Metrobank Foundation Joins Brigada Eskwela
June 2007

OLD CHAIRS MADE NEW
Metrobank Foundation, together with the Manila Doctors Hospital and Manila Doctors College, welcomed the new schoolyear with a School Caravan for 19 beneficiary public schools in Pasay City. The Caravan was held in Epifanio delos Santos Elementary School (EDSES) as part of the culminating activity of Brigada Eskwela, the annual back-to-school program of the Department of Education (DepEd).
Complementing DepEd's efforts to improve national public schools in preparation for the upcoming schoolyear, Metrobank Foundation and its affiliates provided assistance in the areas of student healthcare and educational facilities. Students from the National Service Training Program (NSTP) of MDC painted at least 300 chairs for the host school, and - in partnership with the MDH Department of Opthalmology - conducted vision screening in all adopted school communities. In addition, the Foundation worked with the MDC student council and Metrobank Purple Hearts Club, the employee volunteerism organization of Metrobank employees, in securing various donations for these schools.
With DepEd Undersecretary Antonio Inocentes as guest of honor at the School Caravan's closing ceremonies, Metrobank Foundation president Aniceto Sobrepeña formally turned over a collection of books each to the principals of the 19 adopted Pasay City public schools. Joining Sobrepeña, who is also president of Manila Doctors College and Manila Doctors Hospital, were key officials from both institutions, led by MDH hospital director Pilar Almira and MDC Administrative Director Winnie Esguerra.
