Building Homes of Hope: Partnerships
that
Shape the Future
July 4, 2006
More than just a housing program,
Gawad Kalinga has gone beyond
providing homes for the poor.
Together with the Metrobank
Foundation and its partner
institutions, a community is rebuilt
to give the people in Macabebe
Pampanga, a better chance at life.
Answering the urgency of the
situation, Metrobank was the first
bank in the country to respond to
the call of Gawad Kalinga in ,
donating P1 Million in September
that year to start what is now known
as the Metrobank Foundation-Gawad
Kalinga Village, at a resettlement
site for victims of the Mt. Pinatubo
eruption.
To further help improve the lives of
the beneficiary families, the
Foundation renewed its commitment of
support in a simple gift-giving
ceremony and MOA signing during its
27th anniversary in January this
year. The additional funds will
provide for the development of the
community: electricity, water
facilities, drainage, as well as the
establishment of livelihood
programs.
Like all successful projects, the
massive operations could not have
been achieved without the help of
other groups who were eager to give
their share of assistance. In a
recent turnover ceremony, Metrobank
Foundation and its partners raised a
total of P1.5M for the Gawad Kalinga
Village.
Metrobank’s Corporate Social
Responsibility Unit Head Winnie Cruz
believes that partnerships such as
these not only shares blessings, but
the generosity of people’s spirits.
“We’re just glad to partner with
Gawad Kalinga through the
Foundation, because every
opportunity we get allows us to
participate in nation-building,” she
says.
But the efforts do not stop here as
true partnerships involve not just
working together to touch more
lives, but sharing a common vision
for a peaceful and progressive
country. With dedicated people who
work for the same cause, the
partnership is clearly the beginning
of bigger efforts in the future. |
