Metrobank Foundation Heeds Call of
Help

Metrobank Foundation, the social
responsibility arm of the
Metropolitan Bank and Trust Co and
its subsidiaries, announced today
that its chairman, Dr. George SK Ty
ordered a release of P1 million
pesos in donation as support of the
recent MT Solar 1 oil spill which
adversely affected Guimaras and
Iloilo City.
The contribution hopes to provide
alternative livelihood to displaced
marginal fisher folks in the
affected coastal towns, including
Ajuy and Concepcion. Through this
effort, it is hoped that in a way,
the Foundation helps the affected
towns get back on track towards
redevelopment.
Since its inception in 1979, the
Metrobank Foundation Inc.’s major
aspect of social responsibility
includes response to natural
disasters. Other significant
contributions the Foundation has
made to calamities include the
support for the St. Bernard
Landslide victims in Southern Leyte,
and the Calapan, Oriental Mindoro
flood victims. Assistance was also
provided for the families who were
displaced due to the threatened
eruption of Mayon Volcano in Albay.
The announcement coincided with the
bank’s 44th Anniversary, wherein one
of the major activities is a Grants
Turnover Ceremonies to various
non-government organizations in the
country. |
