Metrobank-MTAP-DepEd Math Challenge
Launched

The Metrobank Foundation,
Department of Education (DepEd)
and
Mathematics Teachers Association of
the Philippines (MTAP) have
formally launched today the 2006
Metrobank-MTAP-DepEd Math Challenge
through a Memorandum of Agreement
(MOA) signing held at the DepEd
central office in Pasig City.
Signing the MOA were DepEd
Undersecretary and Officer-in-charge
Fe A. Hidalgo, MTAP President Sr.
Iluminada C. Carmel, FMM and
Metrobank Foundation president
Placido L. Mapa, Jr. Also present
during the ceremony were DepEd
Undersecretary Ramon C. Bacani,
Metrobank Foundation Executive Vice
President Mrs. Elvira Ong Chan and
Assistant Executive Director Mr.
Nicanor L. Torres, Jr.
This year’s theme “Moving Forward
Through Excellence in Mathematics”,
is Metrobank Foundation’s way of
helping DepEd improve the quality of
math education in the country by
rekindling students’ interest in
math as well by providing a venue
wherein they can showcase their
mathematical prowess.
Following the highly successful Math
Challenge last year, the competition
for 2006 is open to all elementary
and high school students from both
public and private schools
nationwide. The deadline for
submission of applications to DEpEd
Division Math Supervisors is on
December 16, 2005. The national
finals and awarding ceremonies will
be held on April 8, 2006. Cash
prizes, trophies, and medals
