Metrobank Supports DZRH’s Operation Tulong: Feeding Mission Reaches Mandaluyong City

Mandaluyong City Mayor Carmelita “Menchie” Abalos and Metrobank Foundation head of Grants and Healthcare Unit Marievic Mariano distribute food packs to residents of Barangay Poblacion in Mandaluyong City during the kick-off of Metrobank and DZRH (Manila Broadcasting Corporation) Operation Tulong on May 19. Through a PhP 1.3 million donation, a 4-week distribution activities reached more than 19,000 residents from 14 beneficiary barangays.

Metrobank and GT Capital Holdings, through its corporate social responsibility arm Metrobank Foundation and the Ty-family’s GT Foundation, partnered with Manila Broadcasting Corporation’s DZRH Operation Tulong to distribute PhP 1.336 million worth of food packs to residents of Mandaluyong City. A kick-off ceremony was held on May 19 in Barangay Poblacion, graced by Mayor Menchie Abalos, Vice Mayor Anthony Suva Jr., district Councilors Anjelo Elton Yap and Benjamin Abalos III and City Chief of Police P/Col. Remigio Sedanto.

From May 19 to June 13, more than 19,000 residents from 14 barangays have benefitted from the various feeding activities conducted in coordination with the City Government of Mandaluyong and the City Social Welfare and Development.

These barangays include: Poblacion, Barangka Drive, Daang Bakal, Barangka Ibaba, Burol, Old Zaniga, Harapin ang Bukas, San Jose, Highway Hills, Plainview, Burol, Hagdang Bato Libis, Hagdang Bato Itaas, and Addition Hills. Some of these barangays have reported a high number of confirmed COVID 19 cases. Barangay Addition Hills for instance was put on a strict lockdown and even recorded 2 major fire incidents in June. A total of 4,800 residents from this barangay were given free meals during the last day of distribution on June 13.

The donation is part of over a P220 million contribution by Metrobank and GT Capital Holdings Group to fund and support efforts to combat the pandemic and help those in need. The amount was allocated for the purchase of personal protective equipment (PPEs) to benefit healthcare and security frontliners; support for the production of RT-PRC testing kits through the UP National Institutes of Health; “Project Ugnayan” led by the Philippine Disaster Resilience Foundation; distribution of meals and food packs to underprivileged families; construction and equipping of molecular laboratories for the testing of cases in partnership with the Department of Health (DOH), Philippine Red Cross, and Ayala Group; and Go Negosyo’s Project ARK (Antibody Rapid test Kits) of the Philippine Center for Entrepreneurship Foundation. Just recently, Toyota Motor Philippines Corporation donated 30 units of Toyota Vios to DOH for the mobility of healthcare frontliners and local government hospitals.
