In a continued effort to enhance the firefighting capabilities of the San Andres Manila Fire and Rescue Volunteer Association, Inc. (SAMFRVAI), the Metrobank Foundation (MBFI) formally donated a fire tanker during a blessing and turnover ceremony on January 31, 2025, at the group’s headquarters. The donation marks a significant step toward strengthening disaster preparedness and ensuring the safety of one of Manila’s most densely populated districts.

MBFI Executive Vice President Philip Francisco U. Dy highlighted that the 8,000-liter capacity fire tanker will significantly improve the group’s firefighting and rescue operations. The tanker’s larger size not only allows for an expanded water supply to combat larger fires, but its stainless-steel tank is also designed to provide clean water to communities during water shortage emergencies.

“This fire truck represents a lifeline for the people of San Andres Manila and the greater Metro Manila community. With its enhanced capacity, our firefighters can respond to fires more efficiently and provide crucial support during water shortages and other emergencies,” said Dy.

The event was attended by distinguished guests, including Bureau of Fire Protection Manila District Senior Fire Officer Jowell Jacinto, Association of Volunteer Fire Chiefs and Fire Fighters of the Philippines President Arvin Sy, and San Andres Manila Fire and Rescue Volunteer Association, Inc. President, Honorable Raymundo Yupangco of the 5th District of Manila, who expressed their appreciation for MBFI’s commitment to community safety and disaster response.

In his acceptance speech, Sy expressed the group’s heartfelt gratitude for the continued support from MBFI. “The formal turnover of this fire tanker generously sponsored by the Metrobank Foundation marks the major step forward in strengthening the firefighting capabilities of San Andres Manila Fire and Rescue Volunteer Association, Inc. This invaluable addition will enhance the ability to serve the community not only in times of fire emergencies but during disasters and other critical situations,” he shared.

The ceremony concluded with a symbolic water release from the new tanker, with the ceremonial coupling of hoses, flashing lights, and sirens signaling the official commissioning of the vehicle.

MBFI’s support for SAMFRVAI is part of its ongoing efforts to contribute to disaster preparedness and community safety. In 2016, MBFI also donated a fire truck, named “Metro Engine,” which has since responded to an average of 8 to 10 fires a day, ranging from electrical fires to industrial and residential alarms.

In 2024, MBFI has started expanding its efforts beyond disaster response to also include disaster prevention, mitigation, and preparedness to actively support communities in building resilience against emergencies. The donation of the fire tanker underscores MBFI’s ongoing commitment to supporting the selfless effort of volunteer groups like SAMFRVAI, equipping them with the essential resources needed to enhance disaster preparedness and effectively protect and serve their communities. Additionally, MBFI remains dedicated to championing excellence in public service, promoting the arts, and providing grants to programs that address critical gaps in health and nutrition, education, and livelihood.
