Scholarship Programs

Believing that education is a key factor in poverty alleviation and as one of the major thrusts of the Metrobank Foundation, a scholarship program was established in 1995 aimed at providing quality educational opportunities to academically gifted but financially challenged students. This objective was realized with the creation of various scholarship programs.

Under the College Scholarship Program (CSP), the following scholarship opportunities were established:

  1. Assistance for the Completion of College Education for Superior Students (ACCESS), which granted 4-year scholarship to 611 students, enrolled in accountancy, business management and education courses.
  2. Excellence in Teaching Program (ETP), established in 1997 in partnership with the Pi Lambda Theta (PLT)-Philippine Area Chapter, an honor society of women educators, which provided 141 2-year scholarship grants to students majoring in English, Science or Math.
  3. Grants in Aid of College Education (GRACE) in which, upon the recommendation of then MBFI Chairman of the Board, former President Corazon C. Aquino, the Foundation extended a special education assistance package to 159 qualified graduating students in selected Level II- or III- accredited schools all over the country.

The Foundation also established the Share A Gift Education (SAGE) Program, which supported elementary and high school Filipino-Chinese students enrolled in 95 schools accredited by the Association of Filipino-Chinese Schools all over the country in partnership with the Federation of Filipino Chinese Chamber of Commerce and Industry (FFCCCII), and the Teaching Excellence for the Completion of Higher Education (TEACH), in partnership with De La Salle University (DLSU), intended for former awardees of SOT to pursue post graduate studies (MA or Ph.D. in Educational Management and Leadership at DLSU.

Upon the culmination of the aforementioned programs and in time for the 50th Anniversary of Metrobank, the Foundation launched the Metrobank Scholarship Program (MSP) which granted 250 scholarships for elementary, secondary, and college students in partner schools around the country. This was executed through the following three main programs:

Assistance for the Completion of College Education for Superior Students (ACCESS) II is MBFI’s main institutional program under MSP. A 4-year scholarship program that supports 50 scholars nationwide, enrolled in priority courses in Education, Information Technology, Engineering, and Business Administration – Entrepreneurship.

Partner institutions chosen for this program were accredited by CHED to be the centers of excellence and development in the above mentioned courses, all of which include private and state universities.

Share A Gift of Education (SAGE) II provides scholarship subsidies to 50 secondary level Filipino-Chinese students for the SY 2017 – 2018.

Metrobank Foundation/GT Foundation – Youth for Excellence and Service (MBFI/GTFI YES) Scholarship Program was established in partnership with Manila Tytana Colleges (MTC) with a total of 100 scholarship grants offered, 75 of which were funded by the MBFI and the remaining 25 by GT Foundation.

Parallel to ACCESS II, the YES Scholarship Program aimed to produce high-performing graduates and potential leaders. The program also recognizes MTC’s capacity to provide quality education and an enabling environment for growth and self-actualization.
