The Metrobank Foundation, Inc. (MBFI) recognized this year’s Metrobank Art & Design Excellence (MADE) awardees in a ceremony held on September 19, 2019 at the Le Pavillon, Metropolitan Park in Pasay City. Japan Ambassador to the Philippines Koji Haneda and Department of Tourism Secretary Bernadette Romulo-Puyat graced the event as Guests of Honor. On its 35th year, MADE chose the theme “UNLEASH” to reflect MBFI’s continuing advocacy to seek out and exalt Filipino visionaries—young individuals who bring vibrancy to the evolving art scene whether they are working with a blank canvas or a space waiting to be transformed.
Tracing its humble beginnings in the year 1984, the annual Metrobank Art & Design Excellence (MADE) was conceived by late Metrobank Group founder and chairman Dr. George S.K. Ty at a time when the nation was at the throes of economic crisis and socio-political unrest. The Filipino people were in search for meaning and hope beyond the uncertainties at that time. While many took their struggles to the streets, Dr. Ty discovered much promise and potential in Philippine visual arts as an alternate creative bullhorn for people to be heard.
Ask a young Filipino chap on what he wants to become when he grows up, and he might answer with conviction: “a police.” Young or old, every Filipino feels the need to improve the strength of the uniformed personnel. The Philippine National Police (PNP) even eyes a 1:489 police-to-population ratio by 2022. But more than increasing police visibility, everyone hopes to see all police officers putting their best foot forward — exhibiting leadership, professionalism and excellence. The annual Metrobank Foundation Outstanding Filipinos is one with the community in recognizing exemplary servants from the police sector. For 2019, it honors three police officers, namely, Police Chief Master Sergeant Marsha Agustin, RSW, investigator, Women and Children Protection Center, Philippine National Police (PNP) Headquarters, Camp Crame (Quezon City); Police Major Robert Reyes, technical support officer, Counter Intelligence Task Force, PNP Headquarters; and Police Colonel Edwin Quilates, provincial director, Batangas Police Provincial Office, Camp Miguel C. Malvar (Batangas City).
The members of the Senate of the Philippines unanimously adopted Senate Resolution Number 10 “Resolution Posthumously Honoring Dr. George S.K. Ty for his Philanthropic Contributions” on September 9. After his passing on November 23, 2018, Dr. Ty’s heart for community and lifelong mission to make a difference in the lives of Filipinos and contribute to nation-building through the Metrobank Foundation, Inc. (MBFI) are passed on to his family. Receiving the resolution from Senate president Tito Sotto and the rest of the senate members are: Dr. Ty’s wife Mary Vy Ty (9th from left), sons Arthur V. Ty (8th from left) and Alfred V. Ty (7th from left), and daughters Anjanette T. Dy-Buncio (6th from left) and Alesandra Ty (5th from left). Meanwhile, the House of Representatives similarly adopted House Resolution Number 10 “Resolution Honoring the Achievements and Contributions of Dr. George Siao Kian Ty, an Outstanding Filipino, Philanthropist, and Business Leader” on the same day.
The Senate of the Philippines commended this year’s Metrobank Foundation Outstanding Filipinos—comprised of four (4) teachers, three (soldiers), and three (3) police officers—in a plenary session held last September 9, 2019.
“More than 23 years ago, I sat down with a man who had a vision. He shared ideas of what the future could look like, imagining a society where people were enabled to pursue noble dreams and aspirations. We toasted over tea, and I came onboard in a position that gave me a vantage view of how a visionary realizes a better world, one project after another.”
The 2019 Metrobank Foundation Outstanding Filipinos were awarded in a ceremony held on September 4, 2019 at the Metrobank Plaza Auditorium, Makati City. As one of the highlights of Metrobank’s 57th anniversary celebration, 4 teachers, 3 soldiers, and 3 police officers were each conferred with a gold medallion, “The Flame” trophy, and P1 million (net of tax) cash prize.
At the heart of every nation-building endeavor are exemplary public servants who respond to the call for collective action and render service above and beyond their call of duty.
They are the Metrobank Foundation Outstanding Filipinos: models of excellence in the academic, security, and peace and order sectors. They are the country’s educators, peacekeepers, and defenders who are beckoned to serve, heedless of reward or distinction. Instead, they derive meaning in being a person for others.
This year, Metrobank, through the Metrobank Foundation, Inc. (MBFI), awards yet another batch of Outstanding Filipinos—four teachers, three soldiers, and three police officers—who embody the words “Beyond Excellence” and whose meaningful work raise the bar of excellence in their fields. They join the ranks of 665 outstanding public servants recognized since 1985.
In celebration of its 57th anniversary, the Metropolitan Bank & Trust Company (Metrobank), through its corporate social responsibility arm—Metrobank Foundation, Inc. (MBFI) and the Ty family foundation—GT Foundation, Inc. (GTFI), awarded PhP35 million worth of development grants to 40 socio-civic organizations during the annual Anniversary Grants Turnover Ceremony on September 4, 2019 at the Metrobank Plaza Auditorium in Makati City. The turnover ceremonies were led by Metrobank and MBFI chairman Arthur Ty, MBFI trustee and GTFI president Alfred Ty joined by MBFI president and GTFI executive director Aniceto Sobrepeña. Serving as guest of honor is City of Manila Mayor Francisco “Isko Moreno” Domagoso.
The Metrobank Foundation, Inc. (MBFI) bagged four (4) awards at the 17th Philippine Quill Awards organized by the International Association of Business Communicators (IABC)-Philippines on August 30, 2019 at the Marriott Grand Ballroom, Pasay City. MBFI took home two (2) Quill Awards of Excellence and two (2) Quill Awards of Merits.
